Sunny Ali & The Kid | Tastebuds EP

image

At the very end of 2012, Sunny Ali & The Kid release a 2 song EP that kicks more ass than a lot of full length albums do. The first song Vinegar Lips is an old time Rock N’ Roll song with Sunny singing in an almost spooky voice. The second song Onamonapia has some great lyrics in it. I love “been around the world/seen a lot of things/I wanna fuck your face”. Both songs are super catchy and super short. The EP isn’t even 5 minutes long. So go ahead and download this and enjoy your life.

Free Music of the Week 2: January 11th, 2013

Ferret is a one-woman-band fronted/run by Tiffany Harris. Everything is recorded through her laptop microphone. It’s hit or miss with the recording quality. But even when it’s shitty, Tiffany is still able to make some of the most beautiful music you’ll hear. She layers everything. Layering guitars, vocals, sometimes even trumpets. When she does this it makes it sound as if she has an entire band of 10 people playing with her. It’s kind of hard to imagine all of it coming from one person. Only until recently all of her songs had the infamous “(short demo clip)” or something like that at the end of her songs. Most of these songs are those songs that you wish would just keep going for at least 10 minutes. She has come out with a new “album” every 3 months. But when she starts on a new album, she releases every track as soon as she’s done. So you get to experience the making of the album process with her. She has 4 full length albums and 1 EP. Right now, she’s working on her 5th album Jellyfish. She started it back in November and she’s 6 songs in. This one is her best one yet, but all of her music is great. Go check them out.

TOP ALBUMS OF 2012: #2

Cousin Brian: First

This band I would have never stumbled across if it weren’t for the weird stuff that they do. When my friend ordered their EP it came with locks of the band members’ hair. After seeing that, I had to at least listen to them. I fell in love with their sound instantly. It’s punk rock with all clean guitars. Download their album now. Order it on vinyl too!

TOP ALBUMS OF 2012: #5

Ty Segall & White Fence: Hair

As it should be to anyone who reads this’s surprise, Ty Segall & White Fence have made it into my top 5. This was the first of three releases this year. This being the best. It was also the very first time I heard Ty Segall. This is what got me hooked.  ”One, two, three four” are the first words you’ll hear being mumbled when this begins. Everything comes in at once; then, the sweet melody of the opening guitar solo comes in. It’s just so… so… so fucking great. It relaxes the most stressed of minds. You have no choice but to close your eyes and bob your head to the beat. Then, just when you least expect it, they turn the distortion on and soothe you with “ooh” back-up vocals. This is one of the greatest album openers I’ve ever heard. It seriously just gets me pumped to listen to the rest of the album every time I hear it. This is an album worth buying. This is what will make you want to go out and get a guitar and make music.

TOP ALBUMS OF 2012: #10

Death Grips: No Love Deep Web

If you’re not familiar with Death Grips (you’re on the internet, you should have at least heard of them by now), they’re a -how I like to describe – noise-rap group from Sacramento. This is their second album release of 2012. You’ve all heard it before. The whole “controversy” of this album. But if for some reason you didn’t hear about it, read about it here. But this is the most primitive Death Grips album yet. For the instrumentation, it’s mostly just synthesizer and a few drums. The recording quality isn’t the greatest, but that adds to the feeling of the album. It’s dirty, over-driven, paranoid music. Also, some people for some reason, are totally weirded out by the cover. Yeah, it’s a penis, haven’t you ever seen one?!

When this was first released, Death Grips had .zip files, torrents, and their soundcloud of this album up for download. But right now, it’s all gone. I do not know why. So this is probably one of the few times I’ll post an album on mediafire for you to download. It was free before, so I don’t know why they would take it down. Oh well.

Is and of The: Know Not

This is a psychedelic electronic group from Philadelphia. The only reason I ever heard of them is because they’re from Philadelphia. I’m glad I found them. Their 2012 release Know Not is tripped out ambient music. Which is a really great mix of the two genres. There are so many little sounds to find. The vocals aren’t the main focus. They’re just like any other instrument used. The words seem like they have little meaning, or maybe I just can’t really hear them. But this is a great listen, and it’s FREE. Who doesn’t like really good free music? NO ONE.
