RZA and The Black Keys: The Baddest Man Alive

RZA and The Black Keys: The Baddest Man Alive

The Black Keys and RZA have teamed up to do a song for Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming filmThe Man With Iron Fists. This track is badass. The Black Key’s just play a verse and sing “I’m the baddest man alive” a couple times, then RZA just jumps in with a fucking awesome flow. He pretty much kills it. This gets me pretty excited to hear the rest of the soundtrack to the movie. Tarantino always has awesome soundtracks to all of his movies. The Pulp Fiction and Death Proof soundtracks are my favorite, thus far. I really can’t put into words how awesome this song is, so how about you just listen to it.

This track is very good.

Lana Del Rey: Blue Velvet

Lana Del Rey: Blue Velvet

I’m a bit “late” on this one. In the internet age, I am the equivalent of 100 years behind. Anyway, Lana Del Rey has covered the song Blue Velvet, originally performed by Bobby Vinton.  I’m sure if, for some reason, a die-heart Bobby Vinton fan was reading this, they’d be angry with me, but I actually prefer Lana’s version over Bobby’s. I love her voice and on this song, it’s perfect. Her version is a lot sadder than the original, which is a good thing. Czech it out for yourself.

This track is very good

Hello!

Hello all 22 people who follow me, but probably don’t actually pay attention when I post things! I now have a wordpress. Because I don’t know why, but if you feel like taking a look at that, JUST GO TO www.badlypaintedapple.wordpress.com. I POST THE EXACT SAME STUFF THERE. ISN’T THAT CRAZY? INTERNET IS WEIRD.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis: The Heist

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis: The Heist

Around the end of last year, I heard of Macklemore from The Needle Drop (I’m sure many of you know who/what he/that is). He posted his video for Wings in his top music videos for 2011. I really like everything about that song. The philosophy, the story, Macklemore’s personality, THE VIDEO. It’s all really great. I listened to a few other songs by him because of this and I enjoyed most of them. Finally, his album with Wings came out. I was pretty excited to hear this since I already heard Wings, Thrift Shop, and Same Love and liked all of those songs. But, overall, this album did not live up to my expectations. One of the downfalls of this album, to me anyway, is the overused synthesizer melodies. Tracks like Can’t Hold Us, Jimmy Iovine, and Gold (I couldn’t even listen to the whole thing the first time around). Macklemore is very wordy, which is good at points, but other times, it’s kind of annoying. It seems like he’s just trying to be philosophical, but it just doesn’t sound that way. I probably will only continue to listen to a couples songs from this.

This album was okay

Favorite Tracks – Make The Money, Wings, Same Love, Thrift Store

Least Favorite Tracks – Can’t Hold Us, Jimmy Iovine, Gold, Thin Line

Tame Impala: Lonerism

Tame Impala: Lonerism

I’ve always heard of Tame Impala, but never really listened to them. Everyone always said that they were a psychedelic band, but every time I listened, I couldn’t hear it. I just always thought they were an indie-rock sort of band. This is their new album Lonerism, which is out October 5th. When I started the first song, I then understood why everyone was calling them psychedelic. I do not know why I couldn’t hear it before. I hate to say it, but on the second track Endors Toi the harmonies remind me a lot of The Beatles. The only reason why I hate saying that is because everyone who listens to a psych record always mentions The Beatles. The rest of the album just rides out with a nice psychedelic flow. I really enjoyed it, overall, and you will too, maybe.

This album is very very good.

Favorite tracks: Be Above It, Endors Toi, Feels Like We Only Go Backwards

Least Favorite tracks: NOTHING I DIDN’T NOT LIKE ANY OF THE SONGS

Death Grips: NØ LØV∑ D∑∑P W∏B

Death Grips: NØ LØV∑ D∑∑P W∏B

I’m sure by now, everyone who listens to Death Grips knows about the new album NØ LØV∑ D∑∑P W∏B and how they released it today without the consent of their label Epic. And now Epic has shut down their website thirdworlds. AND I’m sure everyone has seen the (maybe not intended) hilarious album cover. I mean, they did say that they considered it art, but maybe they just said that so they could get away with it, either way, I thought it was funny. Death Grips haven’t changed the way they go about music on this album, which is not a bad thing because that’s why every one loves (or hates) them. If you’re listening to this on headphones, you’ll notice that the first track Come up and get me has MC Ride’s vocals panning from side to side the entire time. The only way I can describe trying to keep up with it is like this. When reading an interview with Death Grips on Pitchfork, they said that for this album, Zach Hill will be doing all the drums. No samples or drum machines. He will either be playing an electronic drum set or an acoustic. But when listening to this, there are only a couple tracks that have real Zach Hill drumming. Most of them are rather simple beats. I was just expecting more when it came to the drumming of this album. This album was very good, but it’s not as good as The Money Store or Exmilitary. And I’m trying to imagine if I never heard those albums if I would like this or not. I feel like I would like it, but not think that it was amazing like I do with the first two albums. It is definitely worth the listen, so listen, or download

This album is very very good.
